Albert D. Santivenere, 97

Albert D. Santivenere, 97, passed away in his 98th year on August 6, 2014. He was the husband of his beloved late wife of 55 years, Rose (Hayes) Santivenere. Born to the late Philomena and Donato Santivenere, he lived most of his life in Cold Spring, NY
Albert is survived by 3 children: Linda Hilton (Paul) of Lancaster, PA, Michael Santivenere (Linda) of Austin, TX and Mark Santivenere (Marie) of Poughkeepsie, NY; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
Albert attended St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12532 and 4th Degree Member of Assembly no. 915; over a 60 year member of the Knights of Columbus between NY and PA Councils. Albert was also a member of the Lancaster Italian Cultural Society where he enjoyed sharing his love of Italian Culture and speaking his parents’ native language with fellow members. He served his hometown of Cold Spring, NY as a member of the Village Board of Trustees and as Deputy Mayor.
After a 20 year career as supervisor for a textile company in NY State, he began a second 20 year career with MetLife. Retiring in 1979, he served until 1997 as assistant to the superintendent of the Highway Department of Putnam County NY. Following his third retirement in 1997, he and Rose moved to Lancaster, PA where he enjoyed many new friendships. It was often said of him that he never met a stranger.
He had a lifelong love affair with baseball as a player, a coach for his sons’ Little League Teams, a fan of his grandsons when they played, and forever as a fan of HIS New York Yankees.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 11, 2014 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. A viewing will be from 10-11 AM at the church. Interment will be at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vision Corps: Susquehanna Association for the Blind/Visually Impaired, 244 N. Queen St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
