Thomas A. Ziegenfus,
84, of Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Avenue, passed away
peacefully on November 30, 2011 with his wife by his side, at
Fallcrest, Garden Spot Village.
Born in Palmerton, PA, he was the son of the late Alexander I. and
Helen (Stroup) Ziegenfus. He married his childhood sweetheart,
Gladys M. (Heiney) Ziegenfus on November 20, 1948, recently
celebrating 63 years of marriage.
A 1946 graduate of Palmerton High School , he was employed by the
Palmerton Telephone Company and retired in 1992 after 35 years of
employment as a supervisor. He was also skilled as an electrician,
plumber, and handyman. He was an avid hunter and Phillies fan,
attending many games around the country, including World Series
games in 1980, 1982 and 1993, the All Star game in 1996, and the
opening of Citizen’s Bank Park in 2004 along with many spring
training games in Clearwater, FL. He was active in his church, St.
John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Towamensing in Palmerton, PA
serving many terms as a church councilman and was instrumental in
the building of the Christian Education Building of the church.
In addition to his wife, Gladys, he is survived by his daughter,
Jane L. Ziegenfus-Martin and son-in-law, Gary C. Martin, of
Lancaster. He is also survived by two brothers, Earl H.Ziegenfus,
husband of Marguerite, of Aquashicola, PA, and Ammon F., husband
of Elizabeth, of Bernville, PA.; 3 sisters-in-law JoAnn (Beers)
Ziegenfus, of Richmond, VA, Murray (Winney) Ziegenfuss, of
Speedwell, VA, Faye (Heiney) Heffelfinger, of Palmerton, PA; 12
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers,
Clark, George L., and Martin L. Ziegenfus.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at
10:30AM from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Towamensing,
2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton, PA 18071. Interment will be private
and held at the convenience of the family. Memorial Contributions
