Louis
J. Wittensoldner, 81, of Lititz, formerly of Lancaster, passed
away peacefully Thursday, January 20, 2011 surrounded by his
family, after a brief illness. Born in Lancaster, Louie was the
son of the late Ludwig and Elizabeth (Koestner) Wittensoldner. He
was married for 49 years to the late Phyllis M. (Hess), who died
in 2002.
Louie was a 1948 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, where
he played football and basketball . After attending barber school
he worked in his brother George's barber shop. Louie served as a
Sergeant in the US Army, where he was stationed in Korea during
the Korean Conflict He later attended Lancaster Business School
and worked for Norman Strosser, CPA as an accountant. Louie
retired as plant manager from The William Carter Co., Leola after
40 years of employment. Following his retirement, Louie worked
for 13 years in the mail room at Fulton Bank.
Louie was a member of St. James Catholic Church of Lititz, where
he served as Eucharistic Minister, and former member of St. Joseph
Catholic Church.
He was a member of American Legion Post #34, Lancaster Moose
Lodge, and he played softball for the Beer Barons of Cabbage
Hill. He enjoyed fishing and vacationing in Ocean City, MD.
Louie is survived by his children, Kathleen M., wife of James E.
Wiley of Ephrata, Mark D. Wittensoldner, husband of Linda S., of
Willow Street, Paul E. Wittensoldner, companion of Laurie A.
Stroup, of Washington Boro, 6 grandchildren, Nikki, Jason,
Michelle, Eric, Jennifer, and Christopher, 8 great-grandchildren,
an aunt, Catherine Wittensoldner of Lancaster, and cousins. In
addition to his wife and parents, Louie was preceded in death by
siblings, Joe, George, Louie, and Rosie Scheuchenzuber, Ann
Schreck, Sophie Boas, Bertha Flick, and Dot Hince.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011
at 11:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St.,
Lancaster, PA 17603 with Rev. Msgr. Thomas A. Smith as Celebrant.
A viewing will be held Monday from 9 until 10:45 AM at Charles F.
Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA
17602. Interment will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
