Barbara
M. Vulgaris, 68, of Lititz, went home to her Lord on Good Friday,
April 22, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster County. She was married to
Thomas Vulgaris for 47 years. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the
daughter of the late Frank J. and Caroline M. (Zylka) Matousek.
Barbara
graduated from Baltimore’s Eastern High School. She received and
Associates Degree in accounting from Community College of
Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, PA. She was an enrolled agent with
the Internal Revenue Service since 1989.
She and her
husband owned a small automotive painting business for 10 years in
McKeesport, PA and Barbara later worked for a national tax
preparation company and a Pittsburgh accounting firm. When the
family moved to Lancaster County in 1987, Barbara joined the firm
of Miller & Miller CPAs LLP as an accountant. When the firm merged
in 2006 with Reinsel Kuntz Lesher, LLP, she continued her
accounting career until her retirement in June 2009. Barbara
valued her long-term client and co-worker relationships and loved
working in the accounting and income tax fields.
Barbara was an
active member of St. James Catholic Church, Lititz, where she had
served on Pastoral Council, Finance Committee, the Social Justice
Network and Eucharist Ministry. Far many years, she was Treasurer
of the Lititz-Warwick Community Chest.
In addition to
her husband, she is survived by three children: son Thomas,
husband of Tamera (Stoltzbach) Vulgaris, daughter Caroline V.,
wife of Martin R. Kempfe and daughter Christine V., wife of
Matthew Brehm; four grandchildren: Thomas John and Taylor Marie
Vulgaris and Eleni Rose and Jacob Brehm; her sister Frances C.
Byan; brother-in-law Jack, husband of Dee Vulgaris; sister-in-law
Karen, wife of the late Lawrence Vulgaris and numerous nieces and
nephews. Barbara’s family was the center of her life. The
gathering of family at holiday meals and Ocean City, MD vacations
were so special.
Friends will
be received Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 6-8 PM at the Charles
F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz,
PA, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8 PM. Friends will
again be received Thursday, April 28, 2011 at St. James Catholic
Church, from 11AM-Noon, with the Mass to follow at Noon, with The
Rev. James O’Blaney CSSR as Celebrant. Interment in St. Peter’s
Lutheran Cemetery, Neffsville. Please omit flowers. Contributions
can be made in Barbara’s memory to St. James Catholic Church or
