Frank
D. Shimer, Jr., 78, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Tuesday,
January 18, 2011 at Moravian Manor in Lititz.
He was the
husband of Nancy L. Stoner Shimer, with whom he celebrated 53
years of marriage this past September 7th. Born in
Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Frank D., Sr. and Helen E.
Parkin Shimer.
Frank had been
a safety engineer for Engle, Hambright and Davies for 24 years
until his retirement in 1992. He had also served as the manager or
the Middle Department Assn. of Underwriters in Harrisburg for 25
years.
A 32nd
degree Mason, Frank was a member of the West Shore F&A Masonic
Lodge 681 in Camp Hill. He loved to collect antique cars, but he
also had a passion for helping others; he was everybody's
handyman.
He was an
active, long-time member of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran
Church, where he had served on the Finance and Property
Committees.
Frank was a US
Air Force veteran, serving as a Sgt. with Airborne Electronics
during the Korean War.
In addition to
his wife, he is survived by his sons: Frank D. III, married to
Barbara Shimer of Coatesville, Scott S. married to Karen Shimer of
Chicago, IL, and Chris D., married to Christine Shimer of Manheim,
and his 5 grandchildren: Kathryn, Ashley, Stephanie, Heather, and
Jordan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward S. Shimer.
Friends will
be received on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 10-11AM at St.
Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA
17601, with the Memorial Service to follow at 11AM. Interment in
St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make
