On
the peaceful morning of September 23, 2011, Mary S. "Sue" Powell,
60 passed away at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mt. Joy surrounded
by her beloved daughter, Jennifer and her loving niece, Lizbeth
"Libby" Fiddler. Born in Lebanon, PA, Sue was the daughter of the
late Charles M. and Marian R. (Shaak) Hill. She graduated from
Lebanon Senior High School and attended Millersville University.
Sue was married to the late Casey Powell, Jr., the late
Estanislado "Tony" Robles and Harold Govan.
Before her illness, Sue was employed by the Community Action
Program's HeadStart as a Family Development Worker. She was
a compassionate, committed and dedicated social worker; Sue
touched the lives of many families during her tenure.
Sue enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with family and
friends. She had a special relationship with longtime friend,
Tina Vulto with whom she shared a grandson, Marcus. Sue
especially enjoyed supporting her grandchildren's sporting and
extra curricular activities. Sue took great pride in her only
daughter, Jennifer and her grandchildren, Marcus, Madison and
Marley. Her family was her heart, soul and life.
Sue is survived by daughter, Jennifer J. Powell, fiancee of Lamar
of Lancaster and her three grandchildren, Marcus, Madison and
Marley. In addition, she is survived by 2 brothers; Charles III,
husband of Kathy Hill of Myerstown, PA and Jonathan, husband of
Beth Hill of Hummelstown, PA; and a sister, Alice, wife of Harold
Yohn of Myerstown, PA. She was preceded in death by a brother,
James Hill and a stillborn daughter, Jessica M. Robles.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a
Celebration of Life Memorial Service at Brightside Baptist Church,
515 Hershey Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Friday, September 30,
2011 at 11AM with the Rev. Louis A. Butcher, Jr. officiating. The
family will receive friends following the service. Memorial
