To
say Mary Jane Porter, née Boggs, born in county Donegal, Northern
Island, 1911, was a loving and caring and kind and faithful and
strong and good woman would be an understatement of the highest
degree. One only has to scan the obituary page of any newspaper to
find words like these commonly used to describe the deceased. For
Mary Jane Porter, who recently ascended March 17, 2011, these
words will simply not suffice. I could, without pause, elaborate
on the softness of her Irish eyes, her ever-pleasant, joyful
demeanor, and her undying devotion to God, and to those she loved.
I could, with ease, fill 1,000+ pages from margin to margin with
stories and examples and memories of her selflessness, of the
boldness of her youth, her contentment, her graceful aging, and
her many triumphs as wife, mother, grandmother. The truth is
nothing ever written could communicate what it was like to know
and love, or to be known and to be loved by Mary Jane Porter, and
believe me, she loved. Perhaps that is the best thing anyone could
say about her and about her life, though even this, compared to
the experience of truly knowing and loving this extraordinary
woman, is insufficient. She will be dearly, dearly missed by all
of those fortunate and blessed enough who did. "
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her love, James. She leaves
behind her loving son, Jim, daughter in law, PJ, and her beloved
grandsons, James and Jonathan.
