M. Elizabeth
“Betty” Panik 84, of Willow Street, passed away Saturday, October
1, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mt. Joy. Born in
Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Warren W. Worrest and
Elsie M. (Hendren) Worrest. Her husband Joseph A. Panik passed
away in 2006.
Betty was a
graduate of McCaskey High School where she was a member of the
National Honor Society. She worked at Slaymaker Lock Company as a
secretary. She taught accordion at Keyboard Studios and taught
piano and accordion in Willow Street since 1959. She was a member
of the National, State and Local Music Teachers Association.
Betty was an
active parishioner of St. Mary’s where she was a member of the St.
Vincent DePaul Society and served on the Parish Council as
secretary for many years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Women’s
Club, Knights of Columbus, Ladies Auxiliary and the St. Mary’s
Choir. She volunteered for meals on wheels, helped out in the
school cafeteria and assisted as a lector.
She is
survived by 2 daughters; Kathleen wife of Clement Makowski of New
Castle, DE and Susan wife of Gerald Stanek of Lancaster. She is
also survived by a sister, Dorothy wife of John Buckwalter of
Olympia, WA, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. In
addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister
Kathryn Wire.
A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 10AM
from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 119 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA
with Father Leo M. Goodman as Celebrant. Interment will be in
Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make
