William
H. "Bill", "Will" McClure, 58, of Columbia and formerly of York,
died Saturday, April 2, 2011 surrounded by friends any family at
Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy, after a courageous battle
with ALS (Lou Gehrig 's Disease). Born in York, Bill was the son
of the late William A. and Romaine Horn McClure.
Bill graduated
from William Penn High School in 1970 and earned a B.A. in
accounting from York College in 1974. He was a system analyst for
York International, which became Johnson Controls, Inc., for 33
years.
His
memberships in York included the York County Agricultural Society
(York Fairgrounds), life member, York Volunteer Firemens Relief
Association, York Riflemen, Lincoln Engine No. 9 Fire Company,
Viking Athletic Association, York Hiking Club, Zeredatha Lodge
#451 F. & A.M. and Tall Cedars of Lebanon York Forest No. 30.b. In
Columbia Bill belonged to Columbia-Middletown Elks #1074, life
membership of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 307 and St. James
Lutheran Church. He was also a life member of the NRA.
Surviving Bill
are his companion of 14 years Jeanette M. "Jetty" Gerfin,
Columbia; children, Emily Thomas McClure and Eric Thomas McClure,
York; brother John Michael McClure, Kasilof, AK; aunt Phyllis
McClure, Virginia; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. His
sister Cynthia McClure preceded Bill in death.
A Celebration
of Bill's Life will take place 11 AM Thursday, April 7, 2011, at
St. James Lutheran Church, with The Rev. Mark S. Kopp officiating.
Viewings will be held at the church on Wednesday from 6-8 PM and
Thursday from 10-11 AM. Interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery, York,
PA. Bill requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made
to St. James Lutheran Church, 655 S. 10th St.,
