Marion
K. Lefever, 97, formally of New Providence, died at Landis Homes
following a prolonged illness on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Born in
West Willow, she was the daughter of the late Amos K. and Anna
Kreider Mellinger. Marion was the wife of the late Charles J.
Lefever who preceded her in death in 1999.
She was a
wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Marion
enjoyed embroidering and made many tablecloths and bedspreads. She
assisted her husband for many years in farming and served with him
at Black Rock Retreat Center for 10 years. They also served in
voluntary service in Harrisburg for 4 years. Marion volunteered as
director of crafts at Landis Homes until her health declined. She
was a member of New Providence Mennonite Church and taught Sunday
school for many years.
Marion is
survived by four children: Georgia married to Sam Martin of
Lancaster, Louise married to Earl Metzler of Quarryville, Charles
J. Lefever, Jr. married to Marlene Amway of Lancaster and Paul
Lefever of Lancaster, her foster daughter-in-law Helen Townsley of
Drumore and her sister Erma Buckwalter of Landis Homes. There are
10 grandchildren, 7 foster grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren. A foster son, William Townsley, four
brothers, William, Amos, Alvin and Jacob, two sisters, Elizabeth
Weaver and Anna Snavely and two grandchildren, Deborah Hines and
Russell Martin preceded Marion in death.
The family
would like to extend their appreciation to Landis Homes and
especially the staff in Birch for the loving and wonderful care
given to their mother for the last several years.
A Memorial
Service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 1 PM in West
Bethany Chapel of Landis Homes, with Chaplain James Leaman and
Pastor David L. Weaver officiating. Friends can greet the family
immediately following the service. Private Interment will be held
at the family’s convenience. Please omit flowers. Contributions
can be made in Marion’s memory to the Caring Fund at Landis Homes,
