Sofia
M. Keares, 91, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Sunday,
February 20, 2011 at Manor Care. She was born in Lancaster to the
late James and Annastasia (Lascarades) Mackredis.
Sofia was
preceded in death by her husband Theodore H. Keares in 1962.
Her seamstress
career began at the New Holland Silk Mill during WWII making
parachutes for the War and she co-owned for 23 years Ted the
Cleaner dry cleaning business with her husband in New Holland.
Sofia also was a seamstress for the former Hager Department Store,
Watt & Shand, and Bon-Ton.
Sofia was a
life long member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and the
Philoptochos Society.
She enjoyed
cooking, sewing, baking, entertaining, and most of all, her
family.
The Keares
family would like to extend a thank you to all of the caring staff
in the Stevens wing at Manor Care for their support over the last
9 years.
Surviving,
son, Harry T. Keares, husband of Mary Ann, of Lancaster, daughter,
Demetria K. Baker, wife of Gerald, of Willow Street, 6
grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren,
and a brother Paul Mackredis, of New Port Ritchey, FL. She was
preceded in death by a sister, Anna Custis, of York.
Relatives and
friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service on
Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox
Church 64 Hershey Ave. Lancaster, PA 17603 at 10:30am with The
Rev. Alexander Goussetis officiating. A viewing will be held at
the church from 9:30-10:30am. Interment will be in Conestoga
Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of
Lancaster County PO Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604 or to the
