Helen
(Huff) Hoag, 83, of Lancaster PA, passed away peacefully with her
family by her side on December 23, 2011, at Mennonite Homes,
Lancaster, PA. Helen was born in Rochester, NY to the late Donald
and Betty (Gorst) Huff. Helen was married to the late Peter K.
Hoag, who died in January of 2009. They were married in Waterloo,
NY in November of 1956, and celebrated 52 years of marriage
together.
Helen was a past member of Highland Presbyterian Church.
Helen spent a majority of her childhood living in Waterloo, NY.
She was the Valedictorian of her high school class, graduating
from Waterloo High School in 1946. She earned a Bachelor of Arts
degree from William Smith College, in Geneva, NY in 1950.
Helen moved to Lancaster, PA in 1969. She was employed by H&R
Block in Lancaster for over 30 years preparing tax returns. She
also worked part-time for the Lancaster Court House.
Helen had a great sense of curiosity and adventure. She earned her
private pilot’s license in 1945. She enjoyed playing bridge with
her friends, swimming laps, bowling, making hand woven wool
braided rugs, homemade jelly and homemade spaghetti sauce. She was
a member of the Coterie Club in Lancaster. During her retirement
years, Helen enjoyed traveling with her husband Peter to many
places throughout the world including China, Egypt, Australia,
Alaska, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, and Europe.
Surviving are three daughters; Katherine wife of Blaise Conwell of
Lancaster, Cynthia wife of Michael Guay of Mechanicsburg, and
Carol wife of Keith Olena of Lititz, seven grand children; Rose
and Claire Conwell, Sean, Molly, Natalie, and Juliann Guay, and
Rachel Olena, and one great-grand child Gianna Guay. Helen was
predeceased by her sister, Janet (Huff) Uerkvitz of Waterloo, NY.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a
memorial service at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home &
Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, on Monday, January 2,
2012; friends may pay their respects from 1:15 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.,
the memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Memorial
