Shirley
J. Hess, 84, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, November 1,
2011 at the Essa Flory Hospice Center. Born in Philadelphia, she
was the daughter of the late Claude and Helen (Beulah) Weston.
Shirley was married for 54 years to her husband, Allen H. Hess.
Shirley
graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1945. She worked in
the office of Armstrong Cork Company for five years and in the
admissions office of Franklin and Marshall College for six years,
before retiring to raise a family. Later, she worked for 23 years
as an aide on the handicap bus for Manheim Township School
District. She was a seamstress, and for 27 years she sewed the
flags for the Manheim Township High School marching band. She was
a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
In addition to
her husband, Allen, she is survived by a son, David A Hess of
Lancaster and a daughter, Lois I. Hess of Tennessee.
A funeral
service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at St.
Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA
17601 with Pastor Jacquelyn Roderick and Pastor Craig Ross
officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11 AM at church.
Interment will be at Landis Valley Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of
