Norbert J. Greber,
91, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011 at
Lancaster General Hospital. He was born in Warstein, Germany, and
came to the U.S. in 1932. He was the son of the late Joseph and
Maria Spanke Greber and the devoted husband of the late Wilma
Korth Greber with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.
He served in the
US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. After the war, the
“G.I. Bill of Rights” provided him with a free college education
and he graduated from New York University with a Mechanical
Engineering degree. He worked as a Manufacturing Engineer from
1951 to 1990, when he retired.
He was a life
member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the “Over the
Hill Gang,” an informal group of retired Burroughs engineers which
meets for lunch once a month.
He was a member
of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and was an accomplished
photographer and carpenter. His favorite sport was soccer, and for
many years he played in the German-American Soccer League in New
York City.
Surviving are
three children, Adele Marsteller, wife of Dr. John Marsteller of
Lancaster, Dr. Randolph Greber, husband of Jane Greber of
Mechanicsburg, and Terrence Greber, husband of Christine Minnich
of Chalfont; six grandchildren, Daniel Marsteller, of New York
City, Beth Garabedian, wife of Dr. Andre Garabedian, of Marlton,
NJ, Amanda Marsteller of New York City, David Greber of New
Orleans, Kelly Kast, wife of David Kast of Lakewood, CO, Dr. Todd
Gould, husband of Dr. Neda Gould of Elkridge, MD; sister Anne
Hildenbrand of Media; brother-in-law Henry Korth, husband of
Frances Korth of Lower Gwynedd, almost four great grandchildren,
many nieces and nephews; and finally, his beloved canine companion
Moxie, ever at his side.
A Mass of
Christian Burial will take place 11 AM Friday, December 9, 2011 at
St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Avenue,
Lancaster, PA, with The Rev. Peter I. Hahn as Celebrant. The
Visitation will be 10-11 AM Friday at the church. Final
Commendation and Farewell in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery with
honors accorded by Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. To send the
