Walter
James Coughlin, 88, of Lititz, passed away on Thursday, August 25,
2011 at Moravian Manor. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the
son of the late John and Hannah (McCarthy) Coughlin. Walter was
the loving husband of Ruth E. (Liesenberg) Coughlin with whom he
celebrated 60 years of marriage. He has a sister, Mary Frances
Coughlin, who resides in Brooklyn and was preceded in death by
four older brothers.
A WWII
Veteran, he served in the US Navy. Walter retired as a New York
State Insurance Examiner. He was an avid New York Yankees and New
York Giants fan. He was a daily newspaper reader and enjoyed
taking walks in the summer sun.
Surviving in
addition to his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Kathleen Scanlon, wife of
Thomas; two sons, John C. Coughlin and Kevin G. Coughlin; nine
grandchildren: Kelly (Scanlon) Cassidy, wife of Jeremiah, Kristin
(Scanlon) Webster, wife of Bradley, Isaiah, Mary, Michael,
Benjamin, Christine, James and Matthew Coughlin; five
great-grandchildren: Ella, Samuel and Jeremiah Cassidy, Kagan
Collins and Abigail Webster.
A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held at 6 PM on Monday, August 29, 2011
at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave., Lititz, PA 17543
with Rev. James O’Blaney CSSR as celebrant. A viewing will be
held from 5-6 PM at the church. Interment is private for the
