Dolores “Dee” Charles, 80, of Mount Joy, passed away on Friday,
May 13, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in
Lancaster City to the late Charles G. and Janet (Dillich) Murray.
Dee is
survived by her husband, Kenneth L. Charles. They were married on
April 26, 1952.
Dee was a 1949
graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She was a member of Mary, Mother
of The Church in Mount Joy.
Her
professional career included being an administrative assistant for
Hamilton Watch from 1965-1972, then she owned and operated the C-R
Gallery at Park City Mall from 1972-1982, and retired as an
underwriter with the Erin
Insurance
Group from 1982-1994.
After her
retirement, she and her husband enjoyed spending winters in
Florida. They also spent their summers camping on the Bush River
near the Chesapeake Bay. She enjoyed water skiing, especially
giving lessons to family and friends, camping, boating, cooking,
and music.
Surviving in
addition to her husband, a son, Kenneth “Chuck” Charles, husband
of Peggy, of Columbia, a daughter, Kathy Weaver, wife of Joel, of
Lititz, five grandchildren, Courtney Charles Bowden, wife of
Joseph, Zachary Weaver, fiancé of Kaitlyn Rhinier, Jeffrey
Alexander Charles, Drew Weaver, and Olivia J. Charles, two
sisters, M. Jackie Saylor, wife of Charles, of Cornwall, Marie
Oversmith, wife of Vern of Spring Grove, and a sister-in-law,
Sheryn Murray, of Ladson, SC. She was preceded in death by a son
Jeffrey Dale Charles in 1966, and brother, Charles G. “Butch”
Murray, Jr.
Mass of
Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, May 20, 2011 at
Mary, Mother of The Church 625 Union School Rd. Mount Joy, PA
17552 at 10:30am with The Rev. Luis Rodriguez as Celebrant. Family
and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday evening at the
Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory 3110 Lititz Pk.
from 6-8pm and again at the Church on Friday from 9:30-10:30am. A
luncheon will follow the Mass. Interment will take place at 1:30pm
at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in
Dee’s memory may be made to her church, Mary, Mother of The
