Dr.
Petre Baleanu, 85, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Wednesday,
January 26, 2011 at the Ephrata Manor.
He was the
husband of Viorica Pricunda Baleanu, with whom he would have
celebrated 54 years of marriage on April 23. Born in Bucharest,
Romania, he was the son of the late Marin and Maria Baleanu.
A physician
specializing in Internal Medicine and Radiology, Dr. Baleanu had
practiced in Romania for nearly 45 years prior to coming to the
United States. He was the director of the Health Districtual
Department of Tirgoviste and gave an important contribution to the
development of the healthcare network and assistance in his native
country. He also worked for many years with the World Health
Organization (WHO) in Romania and in the 1960's contributed to the
eradication of malaria in the Danube Delta.
He was a
member of St. Andrew's Romanian Orthodox Church of Reading.
Dr. Baleanu
loved to garden, enjoyed reading, and appreciated and enjoyed
classical music and the fine arts.
In addition to
his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Dr. Raluca
Baleanu-Mallozzi, wife of Dr. Mario Mallozzi of Lancaster, his son
Dr.Mihai Petre Baleanu married to Dr. Andra Anamaria Cristescu of
Rome, Italy; his 4 beloved grandchildren: Matthew, Alexandra,
Daniel, and Sabrina, and his sister-in-law, Paraschiva Baleanu of
Bucharest, Romania. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marin
and Maria and two brothers, Theodoru and Constantin Baleanu.
