Jeremiah
J. Sullivan, Jr. 83, of Lancaster, PA died on Tuesday, April 6,
2010 at the Lancaster General Hospital. He attended Franklin &
Marshall Academy and graduated from LaSalle Military Academy in
Oakdale, Long Island, New York in 1944. He served with the U.S.
Navy during World War II and received a B.A. Degree in Economics
from Franklin & Marshall College where he was a member of the Phi
Kappa Psi fraternity.
As Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Synthane Taylor
Corp., Valley Forge, PA, Jere lived in Wyndmoor, PA for most of
his career. Upon his retirement from business he returned to
Lancaster in 1991 after a 40 year absence and took up residence in
Steeple House Square. Active in the community, Jere volunteered
at Lancaster Regional Medical Center, the Lancaster Police
Department, the Historic Preservation Trust, and served on the
Board of the Farmland Preservation Trust. He was President of the
Steeple House Square condominium association for several years.
He was the son of the late Dr. Jere and Josephine M. Sullivan. He
was married to the late Patricia (Meehan) Sullivan of Philadelphia
and leaves four children: Susan S. Melrath, Blue Bell, PA; Thomas
married to Dr. Karen Sullivan, Maple Glen, PA; Brian married to
Jane Sullivan, Allentown, PA and Julia, married to James Wrigley,
Ambler, PA. Jere had ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
His oldest son, Jere III, preceded him in death, as did a brother,
John, of Stanford Springs, CT. He is survived by his sister Julia
married to Thomas F. Shirk, of Lancaster.
Jere was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He
formerly belonged to Lancaster Country Club and North Hills
Country Club. He was a member of the Hamilton Club.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass
of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from Sacred Heart
of Jesus Catholic Church 558 W. Walnut St. Lancaster, PA 17603 at
11am with the Rev. Michael E. Messner as Celebrant. Visitation
with the family will be at the church from 10am until time of
Mass. Final farewell and commendation will be held at the John J.
Meehan Family Mausoleum in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia,
PA at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made in Jere's memory to the Historic
Preservation Trust of Lancaster County 123 N. Prince St.
Lancaster, PA 17603 or Lancaster Farmland Trust 125 Lancaster Ave.
Strasburg, PA 17579.
