Verna M. Soders, 90, of Evergreen Estates, formerly of 439 W. Vine St. (Cabbage Hill) Lancaster, PA passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Essa Flory Hospice of Lancaster County. She was born in Lancaster to the late Lawrence M. and Catherine E. (Bair) Nuss.

She was preceded in death by her husband John M. Soders in 1977.

Verna was a former member St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church and Zion Evangelical Lutheran. Recently, Verna was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a very faithful person and church was an important aspect in her life.

She was a past President of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #1690, life member of VFW, and active in the VFW National Home. Verna enjoyed activities at Rodney Park Happy Hour. Bingo and traveling were her favorite activities and every Tuesday she enjoyed going to Central Market.

Verna is survived by her family in heart, Karen Ressel, wife of Steven, of Georgetown, DE, godson, Steven Ressel Jr., of Georgetown, DE, Vicki Burton, wife of Daniel, of Lititz, Dan, Laura, and Meredith Burton, two step-children John M. Soders III, of Lancaster, Gladys Neff, of Columbia, and eight step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Lawrence Nuss Jr.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service on Tuesday February 23, 2010 at 11am at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St. Lancaster, PA 17602, 393-9661 with Rev. Burton Parry officiating. A viewing will take place at the funeral home from 10am until the time of the service. Interment will follow in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Verna's memory to the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #1690, 343 New Dorwart St. Lancaster, PA 17603.
