George
F. Smith, 95, formerly of East Petersburg, died Saturday, June 5,
2010, at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Lancaster,
he was the son of the late Pierce F. and Margaret E. Stouch Smith.
His wife Helen Himmelsbach Smith died June 7, 2005.
US Army Private George Smith served in The European Theatre of
Operation during WWII with Company A 27th Armored
Infantry Regiment, was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He
then worked as a material handler for Armstrong World Industries,
from where he retired. He was a member of St. Leo the Great
Catholic Church. George enjoyed playing bingo and doing word
search puzzles.
Surviving are his daughters Mary, wife of Albert Clark, Baltimore,
MD and Patricia, wife of Raymond Herr, Manheim; grandchildren
Jerry Sensenig, Grovetown, GA, Thomas Sensenig, Lancaster, Sherry
Minnich, Brandon, FL, and Georgie Lapp, East Petersburg; 8
great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and step-brother
William Smith. His grandson Steven Herr, brothers Rodney, Ken and
Robert Smith and step-brothers Jack and Jim Smith preceded George
in death.
A Viewing will
take place on Wednesday from 9-10 AM, followed by the Funeral at
10 AM with The Rev. Albert L. Clark officiating, at the Charles F.
Snyder Funeral Home & Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA.
Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery with military honors
accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. Please omit
