Charles
R. "Charlie" Smith, 73, of Lancaster, died unexpectedly at
Lancaster General Hospital on Thursday, April 8, 2010. Charlie and
his wife Pauline Steller Smith marked 51 year of marriage on
February 14th. Born in Lancaster and raised in
Strasburg, Charlie was the son of the late Ivan and Mildred Foulk
Smith.
Charlie
graduated from McCaskey High School in 1954 and then from
Elizabethtown College. He worked for RCA for 46 years in Human
Resources and Purchasing. He served in the National Guard Reserves
during peacetime.
A lifetime
member of Calvary Church, Charlie served as a Deacon and an Usher.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling to his home in Bethany
Beach, DE and fellowshipping with friends over coffee in the Do
Nothing Club in Lancaster and at the beach.
In addition to
his wife Pauline, Charlie is survived by two children, James W.
Smith and Jennifer L. Smith both of Lancaster, and his sister
Dolores, wife of Robert Brubaker of Willow Street.
A Viewing will
take place on Monday, April 12, 2010 from 9-11 AM at Calvary
Church, followed by the Funeral in the Calvary Church Chapel at 11
AM, with The Rev. David D. Allen, Jr. officiating. Interment in
Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can
be made in Charlie's memory to the Mission Fund of Calvary Church,
