Blair
V. Shaffer, Jr., 84, Brethren Village, Lancaster, PA passed away
unexpectedly on December 15, 2010 at LGH. He was married to
Barbara E. Shaffer with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage on
August 24, 2010.
He was born in
Canton, OH on December 9, 1926, the son of the late Blair V., Sr.
and Zeta M. (Lenkard) Shaffer. He was raised in Falls Creek, PA
and moved to Lancaster in 1962 with his family.
Blair served
in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Furse from 1944 to 1946 as Seaman
1st Class. He was a signalman striker and served in the
occupation forces in Japan.
He learned his
trade of Tool and Die Maker at Williamsport Technical Institute in
a Sylvania apprentice program under the GI Bill. He was employed
at D&M Tool in Montgomery, PA for ten years. After moving to
Lancaster, he was employed in his trade at RCA, Benedict and
Siegel, Charles W. Duty and Son, and Pennsy Tool. He retired from
Microprecision Tool in 2000 after 18 years.
He was a
member of Highland Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed camping,
hiking, fishing, woodworking, and reading.
In addition to
his wife, he is survived by a, David A., husband of Pamela,
Northampton, PA; three daughters, Beatrice L. Koch, wife of Nevin
B., Lititz, Beth Ann Miller, wife of William D., Jr., Findlay, OH,
and Kathy L. Shaffer, Lititz; seven grandchildren and six great
grandchildren; two brothers, George W. of Dubois, PA, and John P.
of Strasburg; and one sister, Myra G. Hoch, of Dubois, PA. He was
preceded in death by a sister, Anna M. Snyder.
Relatives and
friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service from
Highland Presbyterian Church 500 E. Roseville Rd. Lancaster, PA
17601 on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 11am with The Rev. Ann
Osborne officiating. Visitation with the family will be from
10-11am at church. Interment will be in Highland Presbyterian
Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made in Blair's memory to the Highland Presbyterian Memorial Fund.

Bea, Dave, Beth, and Kathy, and families,

Dear Beth, Kathy and family,
I'm so sorry to read of your Dad's passing. He was such a nice
man with the greatest smile and twinkly eyes! Seeing his
picture in the paper made me remember all the times in high
school when we were at your house with your Mom and Dad! Please

learn that your father, Blair, was a wonderful father and
person. He raised you to be just like him. My heart goes out
