Lawrence L. Rubin

Lawrence L. Rubin, 88, of 108 Greenview Dr., Lancaster, PA, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Lancaster General Hospital.

He was the husband of Dorothy M. ( Mulnick) Rubin, with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage this past March 24th. Born in Columbia, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Sarah Lipman Rubin.

Lawrence was a partner in the Rubin Steel Co of Lancaster, which his father started in 1914 in Columbia as Rubin Scrap Iron and Metal. He, along with his brother Leonard, then developed the business into a full-service scrap metal recycling business and new steel service center. Committed to his family business for 65 years, he never really retired. He had been a member of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.

Lawrence, known as Larry by most of his friends, was a member of  Temple Beth El, where he was a member of the Mens Club and B'nai B'rith. He also served as a board member for the Lancaster Jewish Community Center.

He was a charter member of the Lancaster Sertoma Club and a past member of the Lancaster Elks.

A World War II veteran, Lawrence served in Europe and North Africa. Larry made 4 landings :first in North Africa, then Sicily, and two in Italy, and rose to the rank of Sergeant.

In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his sons: Elliott  married to Beverly Rubin and Stephen married to Deborah Rubin; his three grandsons Frank, Jeffrey and Scott Rubin, and his 2 granddaughters Adina  married to Rick Corsaro and Rebecca Rubin, fiancée of Mathew Nettleton.

Friends will be received on Friday, May 7, 2010 from 10:30AM to 11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM, Rabbi Stephan Parnes officiating. Interment in Beth El Cemetery. Shiva will be observed on Saturday night at 8:55PM and Sunday night at 7:00PM at 108 Greenview Drive.
