Kaliopi
Kambouroglos, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29,
2010 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her large & loving
family. She was born in Zia, Kos, Greece to the late Stamatios &
Sophia Papapostolou Gerasklis. Kaliopi was the wife of the late
Nikolaos Kambouroglos. They were married on January 9, 1949 in Kos,
Greece. With her husband & nine children, Kaliopi came to the U.S.
in 1971.
Her faith,
family, and food were the hallmarks of her existence. Sunday
nights & “yiayia’s” house were synonymous where her apron was
always on and the table was always set. She was a member of the
Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, the Pan-Coan & Philoptochos
Societies. She volunteered her time to her church & its annual
bazaar, where her stuffed grape leaves were legendary.
She is survived
by eight children; Demetra K., wife of Kostas P. Giourtis, Kosta
N., husband of Nitsa (Nancy Val), Diane, wife of Mark J. Kostaris,
Elias N., husband of Stella, Georgia, wife of Michael F. Zalalas,
Argy, wife of Douglas Pagan, Thomas N., husband of Cathy, Tony
“Antonios” N., husband of Francine, a son-in-law, Gus S. Kouros,
nieces and nephews, Sophia, wife of Paul Hatzivasilis, Patricia,
wife of, Tasos Marinos, Tom Gerasklis, all of Lancaster, Maria
Gerasklis, of Reading, and Dina, wife of Warren Christman, of
Philadelphia. Sisters-in-law, Koula Gerasklis, of Philadelphia,
and Argyro Gerasklis, of Lancaster. Kaliopi was preceded in death
by daughter, Sophia Kouros, & two brothers, Harry & Emannuel
Gerasklis.
The lights of her
life were her 23 grandchildren; Tommy & wife Jennifer, Nicky, Popi
& husband Steve Herr, Nikoli, Yianni, Varah, Maria, Michael,
Kaliope, Kaliopi, Vasilia, Mitchell, Adrien, Stephanie, Nicholas,
Annaliese, Katerina, Kristina, Emmanuel, Cailtlyn, Sophia,
Gabrielle, Nicole & two great-grandchildren Ian & Dean.
Relatives and
friends are respectfully invited to attend the viewing at
Annuniciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Avenue, Lancaster,
PA 17603 on Tuesday from 6-8pm, with the Trisagion at 7pm. The
funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at
10:30am with the Reverends Alexander Goussetis, Alexander Veronis,
& Hector Firoglanis officiating. Interment will be at Conestoga
Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Holy Protection
