Eugene J.
Hindes, 82, of Landisville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 7,
2010 at the St. Anne's Retirement Community.
He was the
husband of Eleonore B. Schimanski Hindes, with whom he was married
5 years this past August 21st. He had previously been
married to the late Mary J. Hycnar Hindes, who passed away in
1997. Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and
Mary McAdoo Hindes
Gene had been
a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 26
years, until his retirement in 1980. He was a 1951 graduate of
Duquesne University, earning a BS in Business Administration.
Prior to his military service, he had worked for the Pennsylvania
Railroad.
Gene was a
member of the Elizabethtown VFW, the Quarryville American Legion,
the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge of Quarryville, and the Lancaster
Liederkranz. He enjoyed railroad history and was a fan of the
Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
He was a
member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Columbia.
A US Air Force
veteran of the Korean War, Gene served as a 1st Lt. in
the Transportation Corps.
In addition to
his wife, he is survived by his 3 sons: James P. married to Doris
Hindes of Newmanstown, Joseph E. married to Susan Hindes of
Landisville, and Thomas M. married to Jill Hindes of Mount Joy; 4
stepchildren: Steve married to Donna Kline of Memphis, TN, Donna
Haldeman of Elkton, MD, Daniel married to Debra Kline of
Landisville, and Michael married to Geanni Kline of Derry, NH; 5
grandchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren and 6 stepgreat
grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra M.
Kipp, who passed away in 2008.
Friends will
be received on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Holy Trinity Catholic
Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512 from 10-11AM, with the
Mass to follow at 11AM, the Rev. Kenneth Lawrence as Celebrant.
Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made in Gene's memory to Holy Trinity
Catholic Church or to St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952
