William
(Bill) Ginn, 81 of Alexandria, VA, passed away peacefully on Tues.
June 1, after a courageous battle against cancer. He will be
lovingly missed by his wife of 58 years, Anita. In addition to
his wife, Bill is survived by his 3 children: John; Cindy
Sorrentino, wife of James Sorrentino of Lancaster PA and Andrew;
and 5 grandchildren.
Bill was a 34
year veteran of the U.S. Air Force retiring at the rank of Lt.
General. As a fighter pilot he accumulated over 7,000 hours in 80
different types of aircraft and was a veteran of the Korean and
Vietnam Wars. His accomplishments over his career include Command
of the Fifth Air Force and U.S. Forces, Japan and numerous
military awards and medals. He also graduated with Distinction
from Harvard Business School and was a Certified Public
Accountant.
Bill loved the
outdoors and was a member of the 80+ ski club and a ski instructor
at the Whitetail Ski Area. He always lived life to the fullest
and was very active in Rotary, SCORE and numerous other
organizations both nationally and locally.
Most of all,
Bill was a loving family man and he will be sorely missed for his
giving spirit, integrity and sense of humor.
Funeral
Services will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11 AM at Ft.
Myer Old Post Chapel, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
A viewing will be held Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 4 until 8 PM
at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA
