Harry
F. Flick, 81, died February 1, 2010 at Lancaster General Hospital.
Harry shared
many stories growing up in Lancaster; from using his wagon to haul
groceries for southern market customers to spotting possible World
War II enemy planes in the Civil Air Patrol.
He was teased
for having "no off button" for his energy and great zest for life.
An outdoorsman, he lived in Pennsylvania but his hunter heart was
in Wyoming. November, yea, hunting at Huber's camp in Perry
County. Louis Lamour, his favorite author.
After serving
in the Korean Conflict 1951-1952, he found work at Business Press
and a wife Doris McQuigg at the church choir.
Wed in 1954
the family grew, with daughter Leeanne, and son Randall.
Bought a house
in Manor Township and spent 43 years in "reconstruction" plus two
porches and a "Civil War" room to house a growing collection. Our
vacations were spent south of the Mason-Dixon Line visiting all
the sites-even a walk in Richmond. Twenty years of Boy Scouting as
a Webelos leader.
In 1980
Harry's sister Marian McMellen introduced us to a small church
group of 40 Chartered members. We soon became 41 and 42 at
Lancaster Evangelical Free Church in Lititz. He wore many hats;
elder, shepherding team, visitation, men's prayer breakfast,
Golden Bridges, 7:30 a.m. Sunday School, involvement with a Small
Group for twenty years, and lastly his greatest joy-greeting at
the door for 25 years (always with a cup of coffee-black). As a
patriot, he held membership in VFW post 1463 in Lititz.
He was
employed at Trojan Boat Company and retired from Alcoa Company in
1991.
His dearly
loved family includes wife, Doris (Wed 55 years) daughter, Leeanne
Flick Anspach wife of Stephen Anspach, son Randall F. Flick,
husband of Kristy Flick and grandsons, Zachary F. Flick, Eric S.
Flick, and Alex J. Flick and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him
in death, Parents, Harry Flick and Carrie Flick, sisters Marian
McMellen, Dorothy Miles and Margaret Brought.
This dear man
held strong beliefs but was also a peacemaker. His spirit was
gentle and he had great love and compassion for his fellow-man.
His deep love
for his Heavenly Father never wavered.
