Virginia
B. Duval, 88, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010
at Lancaster General Hospital.
Virginia is
the wife of the late Paul A. Duval who passed away in 2006. She
was born in Minneapolis, MN to the late Herbert T. Bertsch and
Eleanor Tuscany Bertsch.
A warm and
gracious homemaker, Virginia was deeply involved in her community,
serving on the boards of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, St.
Joseph Hospital and the Visiting Nurses Association. She was one
of the founding volunteers of Birthright of Lancaster, now A
Woman's Concern. An active member of the Lancaster Spinners and
Weavers Guild and the Central Pennsylvania Guild of Hand Weavers,
she shared a gift for textile design, and delight in the
possibilities of color and texture.
She and her
husband were among the founding members of St. Leo the Great
Catholic Church. In retirement, they took a leadership role in
founding the parish of St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church in
Hilton Head, SC. and garnering support for the design and
construction of its church.
Virginia took
great joy in traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is
survived by four children: Constance L. Duval of Lancaster,
Jeanne-Marie D. married to Claude Pierrelouis of Gaithersburg, MD,
Elizabeth D. married to Rodney L. Spotts of Leola, and Paul H.
married to Margaret Duval of Atlanta, GA and by ten grandchildren
and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her
daughter, Patricia D. Castagno and her brother, Frank Bertsch.
Friends will
be received on Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 9:30-10:30AM at St.
Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA,
with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30AM, the Rev.
Peter Hahn as Celebrant. Interment will be private and at the
convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe
made in Virginia's memory to A Woman's Concern, 616 N. Duke St.,
Lancaster, PA 17602, or to Doctors Without Borders USA, Box 5030,
Hagerstown, MD 21741, or to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good
