Glenn
H. Davis, 93, formerly of Millersville, PA., died on Thursday,
March 18, 2010, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was a resident
of Country Meadows Retirement Community. Born in New Kensington,
PA on November 23, 1916, he was the son of the late Winfield S.
and Anna Bergner Davis.
He is survived by
his wife of 65 years, Eleanor Burns Davis.
He earned a BS in
Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and an MS
in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. His 40 year
career in public education began as a music teacher in Berlin, PA
in 1943. Subsequent positions included the following: music
teacher, Arnold, PA and New Brighton, PA; Director of Music and
guidance counselor, Greensburg-Salem School District, Greensburg,
PA; Director of Guidance and Asst. Principal, Westwood High
School, Westwood, NJ; Principal, Penn Manor High School,
Millersville, PA, from which he retired in 1982.
He was a member of
Highland Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, PA.
In addition to his
wife, he is survived by a son, Glenn H. Davis, Jr., husband of
Christine L. Davis, Birmingham, AL; two daughters, Nancy D. Smith,
wife of Philip E. Smith, Lancaster, PA and Carol D. Hodes, wife of
Jeffrey A. Hodes, Herndon, VA; six grandchildren, Rebecca Davis,
Glenn H. Davis, III, Phillip Hodes, husband of Elizabeth Reilly-Hodes,
Sarah Hodes, Drew Smith, and Evan Smith; and one great grandchild,
Zachary Hodes.
He was preceded in
death by two brothers, Charles A. Davis, of Home, PA, and Winfield
S. Davis, of Hamden, CT.
A memorial service
will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 East Roseville
Road, Lancaster, on Tuesday, March 23 at 11am with The Rev. Dr.
Roger Rabey and The Reverend Ann Osborne officiating.
Friends may visit
with the family at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 441 North
George Street, Millersville, PA, 17551 from 6pm - 8pm on Monday,
March 22.
