Raymond Joseph Butterworth, 73, a devout Catholic, died at Hospice
of Lancaster County, Mount Joy, PA, on Saturday, June 20, 2010.
Formerly of Pearl River, NY, Smithville and Barnegat, NJ, and
Groveland, FL, Ray was the son of the late Catherine and Raymond
Butterworth. Ray was born in Passaic, NJ on February 9, 1937. He
was a graduate of Villanova University, Class of 1958. Ray spent
much of his life as a New York City Police Officer and retired as
a Detective after 31 years.
Ray was a member of the Pearl River Elks, Rockland County Shields,
Holy Name Society, Emerald Society, and the Knights of Columbus.
He was past President of the Rockland County Senior Babe Ruth
League. He was also an usher at St. Aedans Parish, Pearl River,
New York.
Ray took great pride in his children's and grandchildren's
accomplishments. He was a devoted fan of the New York Jets, the
New York Yankees, and Villanova Sports.
Ray is survived by his devoted family: wife of 52 years Cecelia
Sweeney Butterworth, his children Patricia, Michael, husband of
Deborah, Raymond, husband of Karen, Thomas, husband of Stacey, and
Donald, husband of Joan. He is also survived by eleven
grandchildren: Alissa, Ryan, Erica, Jody, Christopher, Cara
Prentice, Donald, Thomas, Megan, Julia, and Matthew, and a sister,
Elaine Burns.
Ray was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Fred Butterworth,
and a son, Joseph.
Visitation will be at Wyman Fisher Funeral Home on Tuesday evening
June 22, 2010 from 5 to 9 pm and a Mass will be held on 10:00 AM,
Wednesday at Saint Aedan's Church, Pearl River, NY.
