Charles
S. Ames, 87, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010
at the Mennonite Home while surrounded by family. Born in
Lancaster, he was the son of the late Christian and Stella (Null)
Ames. Charles was the husband of Mary (Gable) Ames with whom he
celebrated 65 years of marriage this past March 11.
Charles proudly served his country during WWII in the
Lighter-Than-Air branch of the United States Navy. He was then
employed by Penn Dairies. After his retirement in 1984, he worked
part time for Weis Markets in Bridgeport. Charles was a member of
First United Methodist Church, F&AM Lodge #43, Lancaster County
Shrine Club, Clint Riedel Professional Magicians Club, and Guys and
Dolls. He volunteered at United Methodist Fools of Faith Clown
Ministry, and former Community Hospital, and St. Joe's Hospital.
Surviving in addition to his wife Mary, are 2 children; Patricia
Perry wife of Keith of Millersville, and Charles "Chip" Ames II
husband of Jo Ellen of Mount Joy, 4 grandchildren; Amy Perry,
Christopher Perry, husband of Alicia, Brittany and Hilary Ames.
He was preceded in death by two sisters;
Stella and Anna, a brother;
Christie, and a great grandson; Christopher Perry.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 26, 2010 at the
Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home 414 E. King St. Lancaster 17602 at
12 noon. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home
on Thursday February 25, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. and again on Friday
from 11 a.m.- 12 p.m. Interment will follow the service at St.
Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
