Jane
Lila (Hibbard) Treer died peacefully in her home at Luther Acres
on November 12, 2009, at the age of 80. Since being diagnosed with
lung cancer over a year ago she enjoyed an excellent quality of
life with her family and friends.
Mrs. Treer
was born in Richmond, Virginia, to George B. Hibbard and Mary W.
(King) Hibbard. Following the death of her mother at an early age,
Jane and her sister, Ann (born in 1930), were raised by their aunt
and uncle, Elva and Harold Greenwood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She
graduated from Shorewood High School in 1946, and then went to
work to support her family. She was an executive secretary at
Northwestern Mutual Life until she was married to Kenneth R. Treer
in 1954. They lived in North Olmstead (Cleveland), Ohio, for a
decade before moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan. After her husband's
passing, Jane moved to Saline, Michigan, and then to Lititz
(Lancaster County), Pennsylvania, to live near her son and
daughter-in-law.
Jane was a
dedicated wife and homemaker, occasionally holding part time jobs
while raising her family. She also did volunteer work with
charitable organizations, including Saline Community Hospital. She
was a very active resident at Luther Acres, coordinating various
activities and serving on the residents' board.
Jane was
married to Kenneth R. Treer for 34 years, until his death in 1988
at age 68. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Jane Treer, son
Gary Ross Treer, son-in-law Malcolm J. Williams, daughter-in-law
Janet L. (Tope) Treer , granddaughter Jennifer (Hawkins) Schwartz
(Saline, Michigan), her husband David J. Schwartz and great
grandchildren Jamie and Ryan Schwartz. She was also preceded in
death by her sister Ann (Hibbard) Ullmannn and brother-in-law Roy
J. UIlman, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Throughout
her life, Jane was the source of endless love, comfort, humor and
support to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed and
remembered always.
Jane will be
interred along side her husband at Forrest Hills Cemetery in Ann
Arbor, Michigan. A private memorial gathering will take place. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of
