George A. Rowe, 85, of Lancaster, PA formerly of Montgomery,
PA passed away on November 19, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital.
Born in Joler, PA he was the son of the late Alvin Rowe and Ruth
(Moyer) Rowe.
He is survived by his wife Frances C. (Hartzell) Rowe. They
were married sixty-one years ago on September 25, 1948.
George was a tool and dye maker for AMP and GTE Sylvania.
He was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
George served his country in WWII with the Panthers in the 82nd
Army Airborne Division 505th Parachute Regimental
Combat Team. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, was wounded and
earned a Purple Heart.
George was a member of the World War II Oral History Club and
the Lancaster Veterans Battle of the Bulge. He bowled in the
Industrial League at Leisure Lanes for many years, and he enjoyed
woodworking and building furniture as a hobby. He also enjoyed the
outdoors, hiking and trail walking with his wife. He was a
volunteer with Meal on Wheels and also worked as a courier for
Lancaster Laboratories. He was a Phillies and Penn State fan.
George had a warm heart, great sense of humor, and will be
greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Gary G.
Rowe, husband of Crystal, of Lancaster, Michael A. Rowe, of
Lancaster, two granddaughters, Erin Conrad, wife of Tim, of Mt.
Joy, Kelly Rowe, of Lancaster, one great-grandchild, Lilyann
Conrad, two sisters, Marie Leher, of Lancaster, Helen Black, of
Montgomery, and brother Donald Rowe, of Montgomery. He was
preceded in death by brother Kenneth Rowe.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the
Memorial Service on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Westminster
Presbyterian Church 2151 Oregon Pk. Lancaster, PA 17601 at 11am
with Rev. Dr. John Light officiating. There will be a visitation
at the church with the family from 10-11am. Interment will follow
the service at the Westminster Presbyterian Church Cemetery with
Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to the Benevolence Fund at the Westminster Presbyterian
