Frederick
L. "Peck" Rhinier, 85, of Pequea Township, died unexpectedly on
Tuesday March 3, 2009, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born
September 14, 1923, in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Howard
B. and Annie Spence Rhinier. He is survived by his wife, Georgette
Rittenhouse Rhinier.
Mr. Rhinier
was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He retired after 45
years of employment at Armstrong. Peck was a member of the
Millersville VFW and was the President of the Nickel Mines
Investment Club. He proudly served our country in the United
States Army's 120th Infantry, 30th Division
during World War II.
He was wounded three times during the war; a shoulder
wound
and shrapnel wounds in France, following D-Day and severe
frostbite during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, when his feet
and legs were frozen. He received a Purple Heart and two Oak Leaf
Clusters for his service, but "you got nothing for being frozen"
he would comment with a chuckle. Peck was loved by many and will
be missed by all.
In addition to
his wife, Mr. Rhinier is survived by two daughters: Bonnie L.,
wife of Richard S. Bowman of Lancaster; and Colleen A., wife of
Richard A. Watson, Jr. of Lancaster; four grandchildren and three
