Carl N. Ratner

Carl N. Ratner, 66, of Reinholds, died Thursday, December 31, 2009. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Gertrude Shengold Ratner.

 He graduated from Baruch College in New York City. Carl worked as a stock analyst on the New York Stock Exchange and published an analytical newsletter for Standard & Poor's. In retirement he was an antique dealer. An electronics expert, Carl enjoyed restoring antique victrolas and radios and collecting antique light bulbs. Carl served with the United States Navy in Vietnam.

 Surviving Carl are his brother Stuart S., husband of Hilary Ratner of Detroit, MI, stepbrother Jeffrey, husband of Rita Ratner of Jericho, NY and his nephew Michael, husband of Candace Ratner of NY.

I met Carl when I moved to New York to join Standard & Poor's. Carl was a mentor as well as a friend. He helped me to find my way in my new city and became a life-long friend.

When he moved to PA, we kept in touch and his life evolved as all lives do. Carl followed his interests and found a good home in the state that I left.

One does not say goodbye to a friend of nearly 40 years. One says, "Thank you for being my friend and showing me the way when I began life in a new city."

To his family, please know that Carl was the type of person that took the time to help others and I believe gained happiness from seeing someone become successful through his help. Because of him, I have helped others as well.

Carl is a friend that I hope all people have in their lives.
