Robert
L. Peters Sr. 73, of Lancaster, PA passed away on May 9th, 2009,
at his residence. Born in Newark, New Jersey on January 17, 1936,
he was a son of the late Martin J. and Mabel E. (Johnson) Peters.
He married Florence M. (Zeliff) Peters of Lancaster in 1962.
Mr. Peters
was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he served
as usher, lector, intercessor and chairman of the Newcomers
Welcoming Program. He also worked for the church as a
receptionist. Mr. Peters was active in the Knights of Columbus,
Saint John Neumann Parish Council 12532. He was a charter member
and past Grand Knight from 1999-2002. He was also a Fourth Degree
Knight in the Santa Maria Assembly and served with Assembly Honor
Guard as a past Faithful Navigator. He was a former member of St.
Joseph Catholic Church in Roselle, NJ. There he served on the
parish council and chaired building and grounds committees.
Mr. Peters
fought for our country in the United States Army during the Korean
War. He served in the 2nd Transportation Battalion. Mr.
Peters was a member of the American Legion, Post 34 in Lancaster.
Mr. Peters
graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1971. He also
became a Certified Purchasing Manager in 1991. He was employed as
a purchasing agent from 1976-1993 and worked with several area
companies; Kemps Foods Inc., Zausner Foods, and Olivetti Corp. of
America. He was also employed as a budget analyst for the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1994-2001. Mr. Peters was
faithful to his local community with memberships in the following
organizations: Reserve Police Force, Metuchen, NJ, Boy Scouts of
America, Webelo Leader Pack 60, Roselle, NJ 1971-1973, Cub Master,
Pack 60, Roselle, NJ 1974-1979, past president Pack 60 Fathers
Club, Ass't District Commissioner, Lancaster and Lebanon Council,
1980-1982, Cub Master Pack 286, Lampeter, PA 1995-1997.
Mr. Peters was
professionally involved in the following organizations: past
president, Purchasing Club of Lancaster County, National
Association of Purchasing Managers, American Production and
Inventory Control Society.
His interests
included reading biographies of great leaders, history of western
civilization, and military history, classical and semi-classical
music and boxing. Mr. Peters was an amateur boxer from 1952-1954.
In addition to
his wife, Mr. Peters is survived by his son, Robert L. Peters Jr.
of Los Angeles, CA; stepchildren: Judith M. wife of Peter Wagner
of Greer, SC, John W. Ridings of Lancaster, Deborah C. Ridings of
Natick, Mass., two sisters: Thelma Palmer of MD, and Ruth Ann wife
of William Mundy of Strasburg; PA, four step grandchildren; and
sixteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five
siblings: Dorothy Scarpuzzi, Pauline Iskra, Ross Peters, Marjorie
Opitz, and Joan McClellan.
The family
will receive friends on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the Charles F.
Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA from
6-9 PM with the rosary being recited at 8:30 PM. There will also
be a viewing from 9:30-10:30 AM on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at
Saint John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster,
PA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM with Father
Michael J. Culkin as celebrant. Interment will follow at St.
Joseph New Catholic Cemetery with military honors rendered by the
Red Rose Honor Guard. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions
