Michael
P. Kirchner, 78, of Lancaster, PA passed away on Friday, October
16, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was born in Lancaster
to the late Othmar and Elizabeth (Brophy) Kirchner.
He is survived
by his loving wife, Jeannette (Weiss) Kirchner of forty-four
years.
Growing up on
Cabbage Hill, Michael attended St. Joe's Parochial School and St.
Joseph Catholic Church. He was a 1948 Lancaster Catholic High
School graduate and attended Franklin & Marshall College.
He was a
member and usher with St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.
Michael
retired from Armstrong World Industries. He held several positions
throughout his thirty-two years of employment from the research
department to office work.
Michael served
his country with the US Navy Reserves.
He was a 3rd
Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #867 as a fifty
year member, Explorer with St. Joe's Boy Scout Troop 16 and St.
Philip's Troop 268, he also served on both troops committee's, he
was a thirty-five year member with the St. Joe's Catholic Club and
was their financial secretary, member of the PA Catholic
Beneficial League, Lancaster Hiking Club, The Racquet and Health
Club, and the St. Philip's Guys & Dolls Club.
He enjoyed
traveling with the Centerville AARP and was an avid Phillies fan.
Surviving in
addition to his wife, is a son, Michael C. Kirchner, of Lancaster,
a brother, Thomas Kirchner, husband of Charlotte, of Douglasville,
PA, two sisters, Helen Bitts, of Lancaster, Mary Ann Welsh, wife
of, Robert, of Lancaster, many loving nieces and nephews, and
sister-in-law Theresa D. Turner, wife of Jessie, of Lancaster. He
was preceded in death by two brothers, Othmar and James Kirchner,
and a sister Margaret Kilheffer.
The Kirchner
family would like to thank the Trauma-Neuro team and staff at
Lancaster General Hospital for their care and support over the
past week.
Relatives and
friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian
Burial from St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church 2111
Millersville Pk. Lancaster, PA 17603 on Wednesday, October 21,
2009 at 11am with the Rev. Mark E. Weiss as Celebrant. Viewings
will be held on Tuesday evening from the Charles F. Snyder Funeral
Home 414 E. King St. Lancaster, PA 717-393-9661 from 7-9pm with
Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8:30pm and again on Wednesday at
the church from 10-11am. Final Farewell and Commendation will take
place from St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions in Michael's memory may be made to the
Knights of Columbus Council #867 1575 New Danville Pk. Lancaster,
