Ruth Miles Hobbs, 97, of Lititz died Monday, September 7, 2009 at Moravian Manor. Born in Princess Anne, MD, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Josephine Miles. She was the wife of the late William Hobbs Jr. who died October 19, 1996.

Ruth was a homemaker and from 1953-1960 she worked at the Lancaster County Court House for Attorney John Eaby as a Legal secretary. She also worked as a secretary to the Commonwealth of Maryland State Road Commission.

Her memberships included St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Towne Club of Lancaster, and United Auxiliary of Lancaster General Hospital. She was a Gray Lady for the former St. Joseph Hospital and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

Ruth enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, church activities and loved being with her family.

Surviving are her two children: Ruth Alexander wife of the late Dr. Wendell Kempton, William III husband of Karen Winginder Hobbs, six grandchildren: Jennifer Vosbergh, Amy Phillips, Dr. Tim Royer, Bradley Hobbs, Danette McGee, Amy Smith, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great, great, grandchild.

Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 301 St. Thomas Road, Lancaster, PA on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 11:00AM with Rev. Stanley Imboden officiating. Interment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD. Friends may pay their respects to the family at the church on Thursday from 10:30-11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ruth's memory to St. Thomas Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, or Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. box 4125, Lancaster, Pa 17604.
