Catherine
Gerovasilis, 82, of Lancaster, passed away surrounded by her
loving family on September 22, 2009 at Hospice of Lancaster County
Mt. Joy. She was born in Asfendiou, Kos, Greece to the late
Stamati and Stamatia (Alahiotes) Monahas.
Catherine was
the wife of the late Stylianos Gerovasilis who passed away in
2002. They were married in Kos, Greece in 1962 and celebrated
forty years of marriage.
Catherine was
a long time member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
She retired
from Slaymaker Lock Company and also enjoyed being a homemaker.
Catherine was
one of many Greek immigrants who moved to Lancaster. She came to
the United States at the age of 21 in 1948.
She was a
member of the Philoptochos Society, Pan-Coan Society and enjoyed
working every year at the Annual Greek Food Bazaar. She will be
most remembered by her love for her family, a big heart, loving
mother, cooking, sense of humor, and making her special Yia Yia's
bread.
She is
survived by five children, sons, Frank Maounis, husband of Laurel,
of Manheim, Vasile Gerovasilis, of Lancaster, Antonios Gerovasilis,
husband of Doreen, of Baltimore, Demetrius Gerovasilis, husband of
Debbie, of Lancaster, a daughter Stella Moré, wife of Elias, of
Lancaster, eleven grandchildren, three great-granchildren, five
sisters, Christine Keares of Kos, Greece, Maria Papademetriou, of
Lancaster, Kalliope Gerovasilis, of Lancaster, Toula Kallinikos,
of Australia, Evangela Koulianos, of Australia, and brother
Vasilie Monahas, husband of Zaharula, of Australia, and many
loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by former
late husband, Sevastos Maounis and a brother Mihali Monahas.
Relatives and
friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service on
Friday, September 25, 2009 from the Annunciation Greek Orthodox
Church 64 Hershey Ave. Lancaster, PA 17603 at 11am with Rev.
Hector Firoglanis officiating. A viewing will be held at the
Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Chapel 3110 Lititz Pk.
Lititz, PA 17543, 560-5100 on Thursday from 7-9pm with a Trisagion
Service held at 8pm. Interment will take place from Conestoga
Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions in Catherine's memory may be
