Frederick
E. Fry, 71, of 300 Saint Mark, Lititz died Wednesday, February 11,
2009 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy, PA. following a
second onset of lung cancer. Fred is survived by Patricia (Snavely),
his beloved wife of 47 years, and two children: John and his wife
Patricia of Baltimore, MD and Bethanne and her husband Timothy M.
Landis of East Petersburg, PA. Tim and Beth are the proud parents
of Fred's only grandchild, Meagan Nicole Landis.
His brother,
Larry E. Fry (Lois F.) of Manheim, PA also survives him. An infant
brother predeceased him as well as his parents, Carmen and Eugene
Fry of Lititz and Manheim, PA.
Fred graduated
from Manheim Central High School, Millersville State College and
obtained his Master's degree from Pennsylvania State University.
He was a member of the first MBA class to graduate from Penn State
Harrisburg-Capitol campus. He also did pre and post graduate work
at the University of Maryland, Eastern Michigan College and
Franklin and Marshall College. He served in the USAF for four
years, in security communications capacity, and was awarded
numerous command citations for administrative and logistical
accomplishments. After graduating from Millersville, he began his
corporate work spending seven years at Hamilton Watch Company and
then twenty-five years at Sperry New Holland and its successor
companies and names. He retired in 1995 from New Holland North
America, Inc.
While a
member of the USAF, Fred was an announcer for the Air force radio
network and followed up in college by announcing football and
basketball games at Millersville, as well as doing the MSC band
football programs. He served two years as a news, sports and
classical music announcer with the former WGAL radio station (NBC)
in Lancaster. Also, while at Millersville, he was named to the
1961-1962 Pennsylvania All State Collegiate Chorus as a bass
selection. He was well known for his work with Conestoga Valley
Buckskin Marching Band as their "voiceover" for four years. In
addition he has sung with, soloed for and done " voiceovers" for
over two dozen church choir cantatas and other musical numbers and
has done lay minister sermons.
He was a
member of Lititz Church of the Brethren. He previously served in
many financial and consulting positions with various local
churches, as well as elective positions as Treasurer for both
Homeowner and social organizations. He served two years as an
editorial consultant and reviewer for articles submitted for
publication in the official Journal of the American Production and
Inventory Control Society
Funeral
Services will be held at Lititz Church of the Brethren, 300 W.
Orange Street, Lititz, PA on Monday, February, 16, 2009 at
11:00AM. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
Friends may greet the family at the church from 9:30-11:00AM. Fred
had asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions should be made
