Kevin
Patrick Caulfeild-James, 82, of Lancaster, passed away on
Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the Hamilton Arms Nursing Home.
He was the
husband of Dolores A. Hagelgans Caulfeild- James, with whom he
celebrated 57 years of marriage this past March 5th.
Born in Miri, Borneo, he was the son of the late Paul and Nilda
(Ogle) Caulfeild-James.
Kevin was
raised on the island of Singapore until forced to evacuate his
home in February 1942 by the approaching Japanese Army. Kevin, his
mother, brother Desmond, and sister Patricia spent the remainder
of World War II in Nani Tal, India. The family returned to
Singapore in 1945 after the war ended, where they were reunited
with their father, Paul, who had spent the war in a Japanese
internment camp. The family stayed in Singapore until 1948 when
they emigrated to the United States and settled in Pueblo, CO.
Kevin had been
employed as a chemist for Armstrong World Industries for 40 years.
He was a
member of St. Joseph Catholic Church , where he served as an usher
for over 50 years. He had also served as a Boy Scout leader at
Redeemer Lutheran Church, coached soccer, played and coached
softball, and was an avid backpacker and fitness enthusiast.
Kevin proudly
served in the army of his adopted country and fought in the Korean
War.
Most
especially, he was a devoted and loving "Pop Pop".
In addition to
his wife, he is survived by his children: Kevin Robert married to
Joan Caulfeild-James of Willow Street, Jeffrey Paul married to
Susan Caulfeild-James of Pensacola, FL, and Karen Ann married to
Stephen Souders of Lancaster. He is also survived by his 6
grandchildren: Ryan, Kevin, Lindsey, Devon, Dustin, and Hayley;
his 3 great grandchildren, and his sister, Patricia married to
Kevin McDowell of Texas. He was preceded in death by his brother,
Desmond Caulfeild-James.
Friends will
be received on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 6-8PM at the
Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA.
There will be a receiving time on Wednesday, December 30th
from 1030-11AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St.,
Lancaster, PA 17603, with the Mass of Christian Burial to be
celebrated at 11AM. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
