| Richard J. Evans, Sr. |
|
He was the husband of Marguerite A. Morgan Evans, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this coming November. Born in Lancaster, Dick was the son of the late Alfred D. and Anna V. Trout Evans. Dick had worked as a technical specialist at Armstrong World Industries for 38 years until his retirement in 1989. While at Armstrong, he developed 8 patents. After his retirement, he always looked forward to his monthly get-togethers with his buddies from Armstrong. It actually took a few more years after his official retirement for him to “really” retire. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. Dick was a loving husband and a great dad. He enjoyed gardening and working in the yard daily (yard tours were mandatory parts of every visit), trips to Atlantic City, and feeding and watching birds. He was a talented do-it-yourselfer and over the years turned houses into warm and special homes for his family. He enjoyed spending time and doing projects with his family-his quick wit filled get-togethers with laughter. His beloved pet, Barney, probably the favorite child, provided many years of companionship. His children reaped the benefits of his determination that they would go to college. Dick was feisty and fun and we miss him already. He was a 1943 graduate of JP McCaskey High School, and was a member of the St Philip’s Guys and Dolls and AARP. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters: Kathleen M. Evans married to Mark Gates of San Diego, CA and Julie A. married to Bruce Rhine of Akron, PA; a son Richard J. Jr married to Sue Evans of Lancaster; 2 grandchildren: Nathaniel Rhine and Gail Funk ; 2 great grandchildren, and a sister, Carolyn Hill of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred D. Evans Jr. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
