Nelda V. (Meck) Sottek, 88, of Lancaster, died on September 13, 2007 at ManorCare.

Born in  New Providence, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Gertrude (Todd) Meck. She was the wife of the late Stephen Sottek who passed away January 25, 2000. 

Mrs. Sottek was employed for 20 years with the Lancaster City Police Department where she worked as a Crossing Guard and later a Switch Board Operator. In November of 1959 she received the award for the outstanding service in Lancaster’s Women’s Safety Corps. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Lancaster. 

Surviving is her son,  S. Thomas, married to Maryjo Sottek, of  Lancaster; a daughter-in-law, Pauline Sottek of New Cumberland PA., five grandchildren, Thomas C. Sottek of  Pequea, Lori B. Tuinstra of  Dublin, Ohio, John M. Sottek of Mt. Joy, Elaine J. Jones of Millersville, James N. Sottek of Lancaster, five great grandchildren; two brothers, Elvin Meck of Lititz and L. Harold Meck of Willow Street; two sisters, Mildred Summy of Harrisonburg, VA. and Frances Kurl of Lititz. She was preceded in death by a son James A. Sottek.  

Services will be held  on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home Inc, 441 N. George St., Millersville, beginning at 10AM. with Reverend Robert Bailey officiating. Friends may be received on Monday evening from  6-8PM. and again on Tuesday from  9-10AM. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman.
