Born in Homer City, PA on September 20, 1910, the oldest son of William and Carrie (Hess) Kerr, Mr. Kerr spent most of his life as a resident of Morrisville, PA and Philadelphia. He retired to Lititz, PA after having worked for the Ice Cream Division of Abbotts Dairies for 40 years. Mr. Kerr was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lititz, the Lion’s Club of Lititz (distinguished service award) and the Young Men’s Business League of Lititz. He received a service award from the Lancaster County Office of Aging. He was a member of Unami Lodge, Order of the Arrow, BSA; Past Troop Chairman, Troop 381, BSA, in Philadelphia as well as having worked for the Philadelphia Council of the BSA. He also received a number of safe driving awards from Abbotts and completed his career as a supervisor of the delivery department with 36 trucks serving a territory from Dover, Del. to the Delaware Water Gap in PA. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Ann F. (Curry) Kerr and a son, Warren James Kerr. He is survived by two sons; Pastor William J. husband of Nancy Kerr of South Paris, ME and James M. Jr. husband of Virginia Kerr of Manteo, North Carolina, five grandchildren; James R., Timothy E., Joy A., James M. III and Michael P.; and five great- grandchildren. Mr. Kerr was the oldest of four children and was the longest surviving member of his generation, predeceased by his brother Vernon and his two sisters Jane and Ruth. A celebration of Mr. Kerr’s life will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Tuesday, April 11 at 11:00AM. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7-9PM and on Tuesday morning from 10-11:00AM. |
