Betty Jane McKee, 86, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2008, at Lancashire Hall in Lancaster after a long illness. She was the wife of J. Edward McKee with whom she celebrated 66 years of marriage last August.

Born in California in 1922, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin T. and Bertha May (Purviance) Harrison. She grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and graduated from North High School in Wichita.

Betty was a real estate agent in suburban Philadelphia before moving with her husband to Lancaster in 1989. In Lancaster she was an active volunteer in the Grandview United Methodist Church and with the Heritage Center Museum of Lancaster County.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Michael B. husband of Carmen McKee of Hershey, Thomas E. husband of Janice McKee of Portland, OR; three grandsons, Guian A. McKee husband of Joanna R. Vondrasek of Charlottesville, VA, Derek C. husband of Carol McKee of Santa Cruz, CA, Colin B. McKee husband of Lucinda Fleurant of San Francisco, CA; one granddaughter, Stephanie C. wife of Steven Monnier of Fremont, CA; eight great-grandsons; two former daughters-in-law, Linda Jones McKee of Lancaster, Vicki S. McKee of Carmel, CA; and one much-loved long-haired dachshund, Heidi.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Betty will be held at Grandview United Methodist Church, 888 Pleasure Road, Lancaster, PA 17601, on Friday, August 1, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
